With its traditional May kick off and running through October, downtown's popular outdoor weekly movie event is marking its 10th year by screening a Paul Newman movie each month during its six month run.
Taking place Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Cinema La Placita follows in the footsteps of larger cities like Chicago's Movies in the Park (at Grant Park) and New York's Bryant Park Summer Film Festival.
It was New York's film festival that inspired the event's founder and organizer, Erika O'Dowd, to realize the concept in the Old Pueblo and started rolling the reels in the summer of 2000.
While there isn't an admission charge and the popcorn is free, donations are requested to help cover costs.
The movies are shown at La Placita Village, 110 S. Church Ave.
