“Blazing the Trail of the Dead”

During the 'traditional' season of spook, the Paranormal Investigators of Southern Arizona (P.I.S.A.) not only offer downtown tours of places with known paranormal activity, the organization also gives a crash course in the equipment and methodologies used in sussing out specters.

From 7pm to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays through October (except Saturday, October 24), the team teaches participants how to conduct mini-investigations and visits eight downtown locations.

"We only do a few places because part of the experience is using the equipment and doing investigations," explains P.I.S.A. founder Heather Woodward. "It's educating and we try to make it interactive and afterward, we have dinner."

The three hour event hits the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum, Hotel Congress, Fox Theatre, Pioneer Hotel, La Placita Village, St. Augustine Cathedral, Old Town Artisans and the now empty plot of land where the Santa Rita Hotel once stood.

"We go to the old site. Just because the building is gone doesn't mean it's not still haunted," Woodward says. "Activity is attached to an area. There are plenty of cases where old buildings have been torn down and it's still haunted."

P.I.S.A. started their Tucson tours at the beginning of October, and planning it began in August. The $25 tours - which include bottled water and food - meet on Friday nights at Chris' Cafe in La Placita Village, 110 S. Church Ave. and on Saturday nights at the Train Depot's locomotive shed, 400 N. Toole Ave.

On Saturday, October 24, P.I.S.A. is offering a three city Haunted Holiday Tour in conjunction with Old Bisbee Ghost Tours. The $100 price includes tours of Tucson, Tombstone and Bisbee with transportation, water, lunch and refreshments included. The event runs from 10am to 9pm and reservations are required.
