There's a magical new museum that seemingly sprang into being within the past few months just west of Swan Avenue at 4455 E. Camp Lowell.
A state-of-the-art facility, the Mini-Time Machine Museum is the first in the U.S. built specifically for the purpose of showcasing miniatures. The collection was amassed and lovingly curated for decades by Pat and Walter Arnell.
This museum features amazing contemporary and antique miniatures that showcase villages, houses and street scenes along with hosting craft projects for young patrons. During December, all of the galleries and realms - including an enchanted one - will transform into a special and unique place to celebrate the season.
For the holidays, several Saturdays will be devoted to special activities, including, most spectacularly, a chance to go ice skating! On December 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., admission to the museum will also include 20 minutes (timed) on the 900 square foot ice rink - a simulated skating pond - where skates will be provided and holiday music will accompany your swoops, spins and double axels.
The Kids Create Project also takes place December 5 and will help children craft and decorate a mini-Christmas tree, ornament or dreidel. Performances by carolers throughout the day will add that extra-special festive touch.
On December 12, the project of the day will be making snow globes with a mini-holiday scene let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Holiday harp music will be courtesy of Saguaro Old Pueblo Harpers in Arizona from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4pm and admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and military, $5 for children 4-17 (under 3, free). Call 881-0606 or visit www.TheMiniTimeMachine.org for more information.
