Electric Holy Land

By Al Perry

Compilation of various artists, issued by Lysergic Sound Distributors.

If the prospect of an LP's worth of Christian psychedelic rock doesn't stoke your fires, drop the needle on I Went Walking, an epic nine minute guitar-driven piece of heavy rock by the Earthen Vessel. I predict an instant conversion. Or, check the Mexican band Renacimiento's gospel fuzz. How about the Ark, The Wild Olive Branch Band, or the Children of the Lamb? Never heard of these bands? Neither has anyone else!

Now, drop to your knees and give thanks to Tucson record freak, Steve Purdy, who has sifted through hundreds upon hundreds of these privately pressed gospel/rock albums that gather dust in the used bins and thrift stores of this country. All these songs were culled from very collectable, mega-rare records.

Purdy loves his distorted guitar almost as much as he loves hunting down these vintage psych treasures and the artists who produced them. This is the first release on his new label, and it's a numbered limited edition good old fashioned vinyl LP.

Since there aren't a lot of new discoveries in the garage and psychedelic genres, he's serving up some topnotch items. I doubt you'll even notice nor will you care that it's all Jesus Rock. It's that good. Plus, the fuzz guitar content is way, way in the red.

Mastering and restoration are excellent, and there weren't a lot of these pressed up so act fast. Contact the label toll-free at 877-353-1775 or smoonloaf@aol.com.
