All Souls Procession:

Help Close the Financial Gap

By Nadia Hagen

Last November marked the All Souls Procession’s (ASP) 20th year of honoring the loss of loved ones. It also marked the first time the event’s individual donations surpassed small business donations and both state and county grants combined.

Thank you to all who worked and played so hard to make it happen!

As Tucson’s largest, most inclusive grassroots festival, we were thrilled to see our community step up and use this opportunity to change our cultural models and to create entertainment and festivity that comes from the ground-up, not the top-down.

On ASP night, the big top hats on pedi-cabs rolling through the parade collected $4000 - which means the potential for this event to continue solely through participant donations is closer than ever.

We just need a little bit more financial help to put Many Mouths One Stomach (MMOS), the non-profit who produces ASP, into the black – another $5000 will close the gap.

Maybe it was your first year or maybe you thought the city paid for this $50K-$60K event, but it’s all the folks you stood shoulder to shoulder with and walked and danced through the streets with who paid for this event. At the end of the night, it is MMOS and ultimately Flam Chen who pay the bills that are outstanding.

Why would we do that?

Because art grows or withers like plants and children - if we are there to love and care for the work, then it thrives. We believe art and the expression of culture from all people is the heart and strength of a city and ultimately a civilization. So if you believe it too, consider donating $5, $10, $100…

We have a new partner to make donating easy. MMOS is a member of Network for Good. They charge a small processing fee and promote the good works of other non-profits nationwide. Just go to: AllSoulsProcession.org/donate and use the Network for Good button! Or snail mail: MMOS PO Box 15 Tucson AZ 85702.
