Don’t think for a second that local artist Colleena Hake’s cozy Candelabra Gallery is just a run-of-the-mill intimate art house. Located just a few steps from bustling 4th Avenue, the gallery has hosted events as diverse as a Michael Jackson art show, complete with dancing and wall-projected videos, trunk shows, an “alterna-gift shop” during the Street Fair, yoga classes, professional massage and live music.
“Candelabra is the culmination of three of my passions: art, massage, and yoga,” Hake explains.
This month, the gallery exhibits paintings by Lisa Kanouse; mid-month, SXSW-bound Los Angelean musician Erin Muir performs.
Kanouse’s “Sins of Love” show features the Rhode Island School of Design-educated artist’s uniquely stylized, colorful and sensual paintings. Art-lovers can view Kanouse’s work, and Hake’s, by appointment and during the Open Studio Tour, March 13-14.
Erin Muir’s understated music is rich with influences from her adventures, which include performing for the Clintons at the White House, a stint in a Parisian cabaret and a soul-searching experience in India. The classically-trained singer/pianist stops by Candelabra for a performance on March 13 at 9pm on her way to Austin supporting her new album, Poet’s Lovely Daughter. Admission is a mere $3.
The gallery is located at 412 E. 7th St. Call 370-1465 or visit MySpace.com/candelabragallery for more information.
