From 1998 to 2005, Tucsonans enjoyed intimate performances by highly-acclaimed touring acts at the “nightclub under the stars” which was the Plaza Palomino Courtyard Concert Series. Music lovers, take note: a 2010 spring season has been announced and the lineup is spectacular.
The location of the upcoming concerts by such talented artists as Sisters Morales (May 15), The Bobs (June 5) and Fishtank Ensemble (June 18) matches the caliber of the musicians. Plaza Palomino, 2900 N. Swan Rd., is a lovely locale with a variety of shops, galleries and several options for pre-show dinners.
Concert presenter Jonathan Holden is enthusiastic about bringing live music back to the Spanish Colonial courtyard located at Swan and Ft. Lowell. The courtyard concert series has been a “movable feast” in recent years, Holden said, and “it’s great to be returning to our original home.”
The romantic setting of Plaza Palomino combines the best qualities of a festival, a nightclub and a performing arts center. Holden said he cultivates a “magical relationship” between artists and audience at this unconventional venue. With many different genres of music scheduled, food and beverage service for concertgoers, and an all-ages, family-friendly atmosphere, the Plaza Palomino Concert Series makes a great date or night out for nearly anyone.
A full schedule of shows is at RhythmAndRoots.org. For the ultimate experience, Holden recommends a table at Luna Bella, where one can sit twelve feet from the stage and enjoy Italian fare while being entertained. For reservations call 325-3895.
Ana Martinez Ross, event coordinator at Plaza Palomino, is proud to represent one of the few shopping centers in Tucson that is all local. “By going to Plaza Palomino,” she said, “you’re helping support the local market.”
The fountains, flowers and garden setting will soothe the soul as well. Concerts begin at 8 p.m.; admission prices range from $20-$28. Advance tickets are available at all Bookmans locations, Antigone Books, The Folk Shop or online at RhythmAndRoots.org. Visit PlazaPalominoTucson.com for further details.
