Exercise can feel like a dreadful chore. What if there was a way to work out, socialize with like-minded individuals and revitalize your community - all in one fell swoop? Enter the Southern Arizona Roadrunners and its 4th Annual Meet Me Downtown 5K Night Run/Walk on Saturday, June 5; sponsored by Tucson Medical Center.
The worthy beneficiary of this awesome athletic event is the Tucson Children’s Museum, which enriches young people’s lives through hands-on, interactive and educational exhibits.
“But wait, there’s more,” says Race Director Randy Accetta. Proceeds will also be donated to Greater Tucson Leadership, Cinema La Placita, Imagine Greater Tucson, TMC’s Children’s Miracle Network and the Fox Theatre.
“To have a strong region, you need a strong center,” says Accetta, who believes bringing people downtown and promoting a healthy Tucson will “make this a better place to live.”
It’s working - 900 folks came out last year. Will you join in this time?
The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. at La Placita Village (110 S. Church Ave.). From there, the 3.1 mile route weaves through downtown neighborhoods. In true Tucson fashion the event also includes live local music, this year by Genevieve and the LPs.
Following the run, a free screening of the inspiring comedy “Saint Ralph” commences at the Fox Theatre, 17 W. Congress St., around 8 p.m. Event registration is available online at AZRoadRunners.org/Races/Detail/MMD.
