"Mercy" by Barbara Nersesian, featured artist for June 3rd.
If your perception of University Boulevard’s Main Gate Square is that it’s only for UA students and the ancillary, summer is a great time to squash that opinion. Granted, it does swarm with the kids during the fall and spring, but in the hot months, it’s a great place to cool your heels and experience the restaurants, shopping and arts.
On June 3, as the area does every First Thursday of the month, merchants will have specials and art and the district’s heart, Geronimo Plaza, features live music. This month, Latin Project will enliven the atmosphere with their tunes while live art is being produced in the plaza.
At Vila Thai, 972 E. University Blvd., Barb Nersersian is the featured artist at the restaurant, which is hosting a $5 wine tasting. The Auld Dubliner Pub & Restaurant (800 E. University Blvd.) is also having vino tastings.
Other activities include a public participation mural, chalk art at Gentle Ben’s and live music at Frog & Firkin. If you can’t make it down, tune in to The Jolt, 1330 AM, at 5 p.m., which will be broadcasting its show On the Menu…Live with Matt Russell from Kababaque, 845 E. University Blvd.
In a town teeming with artists, every event that showcases our talented Tucsonans is worthy of supporting, and the point of First Thursdays is to promote local art including sculpture, paintings, crafts, glass art, furniture art, culinary art, media art, and the performing arts.
