Rockin' Queen’s Fresh Fashion

For Lizette Trujillo, it's all about wearing whatever speaks to you.

"I buy clothing that appeals to me. I buy for myself and my age group," the shop's owner said. "I am drawn to pieces I feel can say something."

Trujillo, 30, opened the women's boutique, Rockin' Queen, 45 S. 6th Ave., two years ago with her husband and business partner, Jesus Trujillo. "I am helping her actualize things," Jesus Trujillo said. "I am nurturing Lizette's dream. When I see you have a plan, I am very balls to the walls. She kept telling me of the store. I was like, let's do it. I am in."

Lizette Trujillo talks about the insecurities of moving Downtown when there weren't many business development plans for the area. "You have to be there to lead by example," the Tucson native said of the boutique's location. "You have to provide opportunity to make opportunity happen in terms of Downtown being viable. Growing up I always had a desire to have a boutique and I always envisioned it in Downtown."

The Rockin' Queen's space, a narrow, elongated boutique, which was painted during a Prince "Purple Rain" replay binge, carries imported clothing from small, eco-friendly, trendy and small designers from around the United States.

"To grow this boutique I only focus on emerging designers because they are in the same boat we are in. I like giving the designers the same opportunities I am giving myself."

The Rockin' Queen carries edgy, fashion forward trends that combine glam and comfort. "There wasn't a middle ground between college going out wear and the mature woman," she said. "They forget women want to be current, especially in the 25-35 age gap."

"I have created a space that is hip, but able to change as fashion changes. I didn't want to be locking into a certain look," Lizette said. "Fashion is about being fresh and modern."
