One Stop Shopping Center is an overworked—but very appropriate—term when referencing one of Tucson’s hidden treasures, the 17th Street Market at 840 E. 17th St. It’s a warehouse. It’s a market with products from all over the world. It’s a music store with instruments and albums. If you’re looking for rutabagas in a bag, rice in a sack, or brick-a-brack off the rack —everything from baked tofu to clotted cream—you’ll find it here.
And now it can be found on Sundays too.
“Our popularity continues to grow and we’ve had enormous customer demand for Sunday hours for both shopping and music. We’re now open seven days week, most days starting at 9am, 11am on Sundays,” says market spokesperson Bonnie Brooks.
Walk through a cooler of fresh garden produce. Meander past the fish mart with its variety of fillets. Or wander through the tightly packed aisles and discover comestibles from around the world. Stay and enjoy a plethora of free events on Saturday and Sundays (including the in-house 17th Street Band, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, May 16.) Drumming circles (your drum or theirs) are held on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Beginning guitar classes (your guitar or theirs) are held Thursday afternoons. On Saturday, May 16, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., instructors of banjo, mandolin, bass, dobro, and guitar will begin a series of clinics. On Wednesday, May 27, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., shoppers get to sit back and enjoy the sounds of the Desert Bluegrass Pickers
