Every year, Tucson opens its arms to hundreds of refugees: survivors of violence and conflict worldwide. Our community is now home to more than 10,000 new Americans who have become our friends and neighbors. America has a history of embracing diversity and vibrant cultural traditions. We are defined by this ever-changing tapestry.
Bhutanese song and celebration, Iraqi call to action and freedom, Eritrean drumming and dance and Cuban food and entertainment are now part of Tucson.
Together we join in one voice to share a common story: how the joy of sharing cultures helps overcome the world's most horrifying crimes.
RefugeeFEST 2010 is a free family celebration held Downtown at El Presidio Park on Saturday, June 19 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Consider this an invitation to your senses as live musical and dance performances, original craftwork, interactive activities and ethnic cuisines will be featured on this cool, summer eve! Celebrate the New American Tapestry - visit TucsonRefugeeFEST.com for more information.
