A coffee snob I’m not. Instant? Gas station drip? Bring it on. Thick, rich espresso straight from the pump? Heck, yeah! Come along as I continue to explore Tucson, one sip at a time.
Savaya Coffee Market, 5350 E. Broadway Blvd. #174, serves its cups with a touch of class. Having marked its first anniversary in April, this “little coffeehouse that could” engenders good vibes upon entry. Located in the William’s Center Shopping Plaza, the coffee is mouthwateringly fresh, organic and local. The French press remains the preferred brewing method at Savaya, where colorful murals by Tucsonan Jos Villabrille brighten the walls. Visit virtually at SavayaCoffee.com.
Popular with: Eastside residents, coffee hobbyists.
The Glass Onion Café, 1990 W. River Rd., is named for a Beatles song and is therefore predictably psychedelic enough for baby boomers, millennium hippies and everyone in between. While ample food options are available here, naturally it’s the coffee which entices us most. A respectable menu of “joe-joe-licious” java from the beverage bungalow includes variously-sized red eyes, mochas, lattes and Americanos. Live music on most weekends adds to the groovy atmosphere. Come together right now at GlassOnionCafe.net.
Popular with: 21st century trip-the-light-fantastic types, open mic musicians.
