Kade Mislinski wants to take you back to a simpler time. A time when things were easy, the day passed slowly and your favorite thing to do was to go out to eat with your grandparents, a time when restaurants were comfortable and service-oriented.
That’s what you can expect from HUB Restaurant & Ice Creamery, opening at 266 E. Congress St. on February 12 at 11 a.m., joining the ranks of many businesses gearing up to open downtown.
“It’s no longer a matter of if, it’s a matter of when,” said Mislinski, co-owner of HUB, while on the subject of downtown development. “I feel a really strong connection to downtown and I think a lot of other people do too.”
HUB will pair an upscale ice cream bar with a full-service restaurant, complete with a large cocktail bar and a selection of 24 on-tap beers, as well as a section of private booths. Mislinski said he hopes the variety will help cater to a wide audience, ranging from families and sports fans to girls who just want a place to have a “girls’ night out.”
The restaurant will stay open until 2am, offering happy hour prices from 11am-6pm with $3 beers and $5 wines, as well as featuring live music and DJs on the weekend, spinning everything from indie to funk and soul.
As for the ice cream, you can expect to see some pretty interesting flavors, including: Rum Ginger, Honey Basil and Mexican Hot Chocolate.
“We’re going to source as many products and as much produce as we can locally,” Mislinski said. “We’re returning to how it was — when Tucson didn’t even have names for their restaurants and saloons. I want to bring that back.”
