It stands to reason that 17th Street Market, the grocery store with some of the best produce in town and a fabulous fish market, wouldn’t disappoint Tucson by opening a grill outside of its warehouse.
Natch, the food is great. My cohort and I stopped by the 17th Street Grill for take out, ordering up the fish tacos, two for $3.49 and the Rock’N Burger, also $3.49.
The soft tacos were excellent! They are made with Mahi Mahi fillets, crispy with a light Tempura batter, drizzled with baja sauce, covered by fresh salsa and shredded cabbage. The salsa had a nice bite that was mellowed by the baja sauce. We still recommend having a beverage on hand to cool your tongue.
As far as the burger was concerned, In-N-Out, eat your heart out! We think this burger rules. Described by the market as their take on the classic American burger, it’s made with chuck, brisket and sirloin. It comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup and cheese. They asked if we wanted mustard and pickles. Heck yeah!
We noticed that the Banh Mi sandwich was a popular choice and overheard one gentleman telling a couple of ladies that it is quite delicious. The $4.99 Vietnamese sub features grilled lemongrass pork, pickled carrots/daikon radish, cucumber, cilantro and jalapeno.
The menu continues to evolve and regularly offers a catfish po’ boy, a pulled pork sandwich and a Portobello burger.
Enjoy lunching outside the warehouse for a great urban experience. Check it out Thursday-Saturday, 10am to 5pm. They accept cash and credit cards.
The 17th Street Grill is located at 840 E. 17th St., online at SeventeenthStreetMarket.com and 792-2588.
