Arizona Theatre Company's 09-10 season delivers two world premieres, two Broadway musicals, an American classic and the premiere adaptation of an international best-selling novel created by award-winning playwrights, directors, actors and designers.

Based on the novel by Khaled Hosseini and adapted for the stage by Matthew Spangler, Arizona Theatre Company beings its season with The Kite Runner (September 10 - October 3, 2009). A cry for help from an old friend in a distant land lies at the heart of this powerful story of friendship, betrayal and redemption newly adapted from the international best-selling novel. The Kite Runner is told through the lives of two boys, Amir and Hassan, growing up in Afghanistan in the same household, but in two starkly different worlds. When the innocence of the boys' childhood is confronted with the brutality of prejudice and hate, Amir begins a journey of self discovery and enlightenment that will take him far from his home and the demons of his youth. Fate, global politics and historical tragedy threaten his ability to make amends for his past. The Kite Runner shows us the human face beneath the headline news.

Comic legend and Academy Award nominee Elaine May offers up a new comedy starring Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Marlo Thomas as Doreen, the socialite wife of a right-wing Republican named George, as Arizona Theatre Company continues its season with George is Dead (October 17 - November 7, 2009). Bright lights. Glamorous gowns. And finger-snapping, toe-tappin' music take the stage in Ain't Misbehavin', The Fats Waller Musical Show playing November 28 through December 19, 2009. The season continues with [title of show] opening in January, The Glass Menagerie in February and closing out the season in April is The Second City Does Arizona, Or Close, But No Saguaro.
