Mosaic flower tiles, tree branch handrails, and a towering wall fountain grace the ascent to Acacia’s happy hour with half-price draft beer, $2 off wells and glasses of wine, $5 house margaritas; half-price martinis on Mondays. Attention dry martini lovers: ask for the “The Vesper.” Or try the velvety “Perfect Pear,” Grey Goose vodka and pear liqueur served with a cinnamon stick.
The eclectic $3-$8 bar menu includes adorable Sonoran pups ($3), two miniature hot dogs in buns, dressed with everything except a collar. The Fish and chips ($6) feature four pieces of fresh cod cooked crispy and light, four sauces – Cholula ranch with a little heat, mild tartar sauce, malt vinegar, and ketchup – with a generous portion of crunchy fries. Tchurrasco stix ($6.25) are two skewers of massive, moist hunks of chicken, beef, pork and sausage in a garlicky chimichurri sauce. Steamed chicken and havarti dumplings ($4.25) come with Thai cashew sauce.
Décor is a sensual mélange of desert colors, water motifs, and a subtle play of light on stone and glass. The fabulous bar is bubbled glass lit from below, with a lighted lime green front panel, wave motifs above, and swiveling luncheonette seats in plum. Mirrors create an infinity effect. A wall of windows offers stunning views of the Tucson basin.
