ADD TUCSON to the list of cities able to instantly find out what is going on in the world of arts and entertainment from visual and performing arts to dance and theatre as well as poetry, literature, and family events.
It's an online directory recently launched locally under the aegis of the Tucson Pima Arts Council and the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau. TPAC and MTCVB collaborated for a year on how best to get all listings into one site location. First, they considered creation of a local site. Then they decided to adopt the ShowUp.com model already in use in other cities. MTCVB pays for the $50,000 site launch and operational costs. TPAC will manage the page content and market the resource.
"Supporting ShowUp.com as a vehicle by which Tucson's arts and culture offerings can be effectively marketed is a win-win for our tourism industry, the arts community and Tucson as a destination site," says Kimberly Schmitz, MTCVB Communications Director. "It's a central place for all arts and culture in this area rather than having to search piecemeal for specific events."
Phoenix was the first city to adopt the ShowUp.com web product and it's brought their arts community together, according to Executive Director Matt Lehrman whose non-profit Alliance for Audience oversees the project. "It's a single convenient online site resource for what's happening. ShowUp.com tells you what's going on, where, and when, so all you have to do to is Show Up and enjoy," he says.
