The free, outdoor Scott Avenue Stage, just south of Broadway Boulevard, features some of Tucson’s best woman-fronted bands! The line-up includes Mitzi Cowell & The Valiants, Heather “Lil Mama” Hardy Band, The Last Call Girls.
Opening the night is teenaged rockers, Deceptively Innocent, performing Rock/Pop Punk/Alternative covers and originals, from 4pm-4:45pm.From 5pm-6:15pm is Mitzi Cowell & The Valiants: Smart, swampadelic spiritual-uplift desert groove-blues for ecstatic dancers
and discriminating listeners alike. Gary Mackender and Nick Augustine on
rhythm with fully-baked Tucson native Mitzi Cowell on guitar, vocals,
and songwriting. Special guests always likely!
Heather “Lil Mama” Hardy Band rocks the stage from 6:30pm-7:45pm. Zocalo Magazine said “Hardy’s third release, ‘Get Out of the Road,’ showcases the musician’s sweet violin electrified in a positive bluesy/soul album with spiritual overtones.”
Headlining from 8pm-9pm is The Last Call Girls: High energy Country-Cajun-Celtic Americana rockin’ dance tunes with three part harmonies, fiddle, accordion and tin whistle.
On the free, outdoor 5th Avenue Stage from 4pm-9pm is Southwest Soul Circuit, featuring and hosted by Kevin & Tanishia Hamilton.
At the Fox Theatre, from 7pm-9pm & also free, is the Tucson Jazz Institute’s Ellington Band. In 2010, the TJI Ellington Big Band was selected by Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center (included a trip to NYC) as the top community high school jazz band in the USA.
